
TOM MCNUTT
GENERAL COUNSEL - COVENANT ENERGY GROUP
Mr. McNutt has serves as general counsel for the Partnerships and Covenant Energy Group, LLC. Mr. McNutt is also responsible for the Partnership’s acquisition and divestiture of the Portfolio Investments. In addition, Mr. McNutt serves on the Investment Committee.
Mr. McNutt has served as acting general counsel for Superior Silica Sands and its affiliates (“SSS”) since August 2020. SSS is a supplier of frac sand and industrial sand in South Texas and Wisconsin. Prior to SSS, Mr. McNutt served as executive vice president, general counsel and secretary for Energy & Exploration Partners and its affiliates (“ENXP”) from March 2012 – January 2021. Mr. McNutt was also a director at ENXP from April 2013- January 2015. ENXP was an independent exploration and production company focused on the acquisition, exploration, development and exploitation of conventional and unconventional oil and natural gas resources. In addition, Mr. McNutt co-founded a natural gas to bitcoin integrated company in May 2021. This company converts natural gas to electricity and utilizes the electricity to mine bitcoin.
. From January 2009 to March 2012, Mr. McNutt was of counsel, and from June 2001 to January 2009, he was an associate, in the corporate group of Bracewell, LLP (f/k/a Bracewell & Giuliani). While at Bracewell, LLP Mr. McNutt advised numerous oil and natural gas clients on a variety of issues including federal and state tax issues and also designed and implemented tax efficient structures with respect to asset acquisitions and dispositions. Mr. McNutt earned a Master of Laws (LLM) in taxation from the New York University School of Law and a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law of Houston where he graduated cum laude and was a member of the South Texas Law Review. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. McNutt is a licensed, active member of the State Bar of Texas, which he joined in 2000
